Newton's Gravity Glass

It's not a thermometer and it's not intended as a timer either, but you will see gravity creating two opposite movements at the same time in this unique gift.

The "sand" in the beautifully hand-blown hourglass is a rich blue.  Another surprise awaits however, flip it over and be dazzled.

For the executive requiring mental relaxation while awaiting inspiration.

Sir Isaac Newton (1643 – 1727) had been considering gravity for some time when, legend has it, an apple fell on his head while sitting beneath an apple tree.  Today, a tree that is claimed to be a direct descendant from that apple, exists in the grounds of the UK’s primary standards laboratory, the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, Middlesex (http://www.npl.co.uk/cgi-excite/AT-nplsearch.cgi).  The legend states that Newton’s first ideas of a theory of Universal Gravitation resulted from his incident with the apple.

Newton was a brilliant physicist and, in addition to other areas of successful research, went on to develop three laws of motion as well as his general theory of gravitation.  Even more remarkable is that he was just 24 years old when he developed these ideas into the four laws that are believed to apply to everything in the universe.
